Would coloring my hair for 4 years ruin it?

Everyone's hair is different and responds different to products. I would suggest going to a licensed professional if you're not sure. I color mine every 6-8 weeks but I use good shampoos and conditioners and deep condition in between. But I also have very thick coarse hair that can take anything I throw at it. Go see the Pro's!!
