Would you curse an ex-lover in this way?
I'm not a witch so I do not curse anyone, even an ex-lover. When I read this piece of poetry it brought to mind " Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned". I think you could say this chap is trying his best to match that. He is bitter indeed and certainly isn't going to wish her all the best. He is wishing on her a very dull life with her lover. "May you move your mother-in-law slow". Poor woman, he certainly knows the importance of a woman trying to get along with her husband's mother. Trouble in store here if his curse comes true. He is wishing on her a life of misery with someone of inferior intellect. Yet, he can not denigrate her in any way, because she must have been his ideal woman. To denigrate her would reflect badly on him, so he directs his attention to her lover instead. Can't help feeling she did the right thing leaving him.
